Extended Response to the Membership Survey |
First, we would like to thank everyone who took the survey. It took us a long time to come up with a response to your concerns because we didn't want to give you just our words. We had to act upon them. So we listen to you over the summer and put on one of the greatest summer in Club Creole's history. Read on to see what we did (or are doing) to erase your concern.
Problem with the structure of Eboard’s election
As an Executive Board, we are aware that the general election’s process needs to be improved tremendously. We will in fact work on finding ways to make the process more efficient. However, one thing we can’t do is take away the voice of the members. It is their right to be concern about where the organization is heading and who is heading it.
Lack of internal communication
With any organization, lack of communication can be problematic. As an Eboard we have devised a method to communicate with each other that has proven effective throughout the summer. That method will also be used by the directors so everyone can be on the same page. We know that this is not full proof. That’s why we are constantly trying to find a way to improve our internal communication.

How to get Involved in Club Creole |
One question we always get from new members is “how do I get involved in Club Creole?” This is always an interesting question since it already refutes the notion of someone being involved in an organization by just attending meetings and events. Being involved in an organization means to contribute to its growth and to engage in its operation. In some organization, doing the former would suffice. But in Club Creole, both actions are needed for us to continue in our path of excellence.
One of the greatest things about C.C. is the multitude of way you can increase your involvement in it. In no time, you can go from the member that just attend the meeting to the member that is helping organizing the event to the member that is in charge of the event then to the member that is in charge of Club Creole’s operations. Below is a comprehensive listing of how you can become one of those involved members. Join a CommitteeJoining a committee is usually one of the first steps that new Club Creole members take. Not only it gives you a chance to work in a group setting where you can achieve common goals, it also provides you the opportunity to make great friends. Club Creole has many committees which are headed by a director or a member of the Executive Board. Some of the committees are listed here. To join, contact the person in charge of the respected committee.
Join Club Creole Dance TroupeThe Dance Troupe which is a committee in its own is a more involved affair. Throughout Club Creole’s existence, it has been known to be a driven force behind showcasing the Haitian Culture in Gainesville and other places. If you are into performing arts or want to challenge yourself by doing something new, this is the perfect way for you to become more involved with Club Creole. Club Creole's Summer in Review |
Just in case you were not here this summer, here is a breakdown of what we did this Summer. Overall, it was one of the most amazing Summer for Club Creole. This just give you an idea of what to expect from the organization for the year.
Event: Club Creole's Potluck at the Movie Date: May 30th 2008 Attendance: ~60 Type: Social Summary: The Potluck was the first event for the new Club Creole's year. Its intent was to gather everyone that was here for Summer A in an environment where they can have fun, eat, and watch a Haitian movie. The movie we watch was Kidnapping which shed lights on a side of Haiti that is often exposed in the media.
Event: Orlando 1st Annual Independence Day Festival Date: July 5th 2008 Attendance: ~15 Type: Trip Summary: Being that it was its first year; the Orlando Fest was no doubt one of the best events to be put on by the Haitian community. There were performances by Koudjay, T-Vice, Carimi, Djakout, Zin, and other bands. Overall it was a great experience. Congratulation goes out to the Haitian Community in Orlando for putting on such a wonderful event.
Event: Club Creole’s General Body Meeting Date: July 8th 2008 Attendance: ~70 Type: Meeting Summary: Amidst the rain, new and old Club Creole members came out to see what Club Creole has to offer for the new school year. We briefly reviewed what happen in Club Creole last year and what's coming up. Haitian food (Griot, fried plantains, rice, cake, etc...) was served at the end. Note: A big “Thank You” goes out to Carine Normil and everyone else who cooked the food.
